Both Canada and BC offer tax credits to international and domestic productions which refund a portion of labour after production completes. Productions can pre-finance this to increase their budget.
With financing, domestic tax credits can cover 32.85% to 42.28% of total costs with an additional 8.93% on most post services, with additional subsidies for hiring students. On larger productions, smart accounting can raise this by at least another 10% - which makes it possible for a show to recoup more than half of its costs.
